Death By Stereo

20 Years, 35 countries, 7 studio albums, 1 live record, countless eps and singles later. Death By Stereo is still going strong!

Currently supporting their latest release “Just like you’d leave us we’ve left you for dead…” Death By Stereo are hitting harder then ever. Still blurring lines and bending genres. Their amalgamation of hard-core punk, metal, and thrash, along side of a “no compromise” mantra makes this release one of their most angry records to date. Heavy, fast, & melodic. DBS will burn down everything around them and build a new future with every record. Continually forging their own path the band cannot be stopped. The future is looking good. Cheers to 1998 and Beyond. Death For Life!

RED CITY RADIO

If, as the saying goes, life is less what happens to you and more how you deal with it, RED CITY RADIO have succeeded in spades, insatiable in their heart and singular focus

It’s possible that you haven’t heard of Red City Radio, so maybe a “band bio” is in order. We bring that point up because this punk band from the Heartland has flourished and grown in popularity without having any real help from the usual suspects. They’ve never been embraced by the hip websites, they’ve never had a big record label, and they don’t have a fancy booking agent in NYC. None of that shit, just four good friends from Oklahoma City that keep getting better at writing songs and keep playing bigger and bigger shows. Yeah sure, we’ll write you a band bio. RCR is all about inclusion, so it’s never too late to get on board and come along for the ride.

First off, as we’ve already noted, the band hails from the unlikely punk scene of Oklahoma City, OK. That right there probably explains why these kids have been fighting an uphill battle—or more likely—that struggle explains why their creative muscles keep getting stronger. Apart from the isolation, OKC is a funky and unique place, so maybe that’s where Red City Radio is coming from with this latest SkyTigers project. Songwriter and vocalist, Garrett Dale, says, “The message with SkyTigers is a message of acceptance and love. Accepting control over your own universe and taking a stand against hate, fear, and confusion… We hope that these songs make our listeners feel like there is someone who feels the same as them. Because there is.”

After forming the band in 2007, they had to fight their way out of the Sooner State. They’ve released EPs and LPs with independent labels here and there, but their big chance came recently in 2015, when they got an offer from newly-formed Vagrant/BMG imprint, Staple Records. They put fort their strongest effort yet, a self-titled album that blew us all away. Two months after its release, the label folded and the band was left once again to fend for itself.

THE RUMJACKS

“Its like growing up with a tear in your eye and a storm brewing in your heart..” muses frontman Frankie McLaughlin on the musical heritage of the group. “We were raised on the Scottish & Irish music in our parents record collection, before colliding head-on with Punk Rock as we grew older & thought we knew everything.”

These two immovable pillars define The Rumjacks above all else, as they continue to cut their own path through the tangled musical landscape before them. Their own brand of Celtic Punk has seen them release two EP’s – ‘Hung, Drawn & Portered’ & ‘Sound as a Pound’ (’09), as well as three powerful full length albums – ‘Gangs of New Holland’ (’10), ‘Sober & Godless’ (’15), & ‘Sleepin’ Rough’ (’16).

Their incendiary live performances and seemingly endless touring regime has seen them share the stage with acts as diverse as Dropkick Murphys, The Interrupters, Anti Flag, CJ Ramone, The Real McKenzies, Gogol Bordello, Ruts DC, Guttermouth, GBH, UK Subs and The Aggrolites. “We’re at home on any lineup in front of any crowd, I think there are elements of what we do that must appeal to just about anyone.”

Indeed there are – from their heavy Celtic roots to the driving punk rock or even ska/reggae rhythms, well-oiled sing-alongs & choking ballads. “We draw on so many influences, but still it’s important for us to force the bounds of what we already do, play good solid Punk rock with a fat smear of Celtic folk right through it, Hopefully contributing something fresh & substantial that’ll stick around in people’s hearts long after the party’s over..”

LEVEL UP FESTIVAL 2018

*NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS*

Your Friday night JOINT headliners are:

David Hillyard & The Rocksteady Seven

David Hillyard & the The Rocksteady 7 is a shifting collective of musicians featuring some of the best players in New York City.
Through his diverse experience, Dave has developed an unique style, which is reflected in the music and composition of the Rocksteady 7. A mix of the warm island tonalities of Roland Alphonso and Tommy McCook, the strident cries of John Coltrane, the smears of Sidney Bechet, the otherworldliness of Pharaoh Saunders, the honking blues of King Curtis, and the swing of Ben Webster, Lester Young, and Coleman Hawkins. As Jazziz magazine put it succinctly, “HILLYARD CAN PLAY”
The band has experience playing with everyone from Sting to the Skatalites. Senior among them is veteran percussionist, Larry McDonald. Larry began his career back at the inception of ska music with Carlos Malcolm’s Afro Jamaicans. He went on to perform on several classic reggae tracks such as Cherry Oh Baby, Funky Kingston, and Rivers of Babylon. Then he left Jamaica and played long stints with Taj Mahal and Gil Scott-Heron.

AND

The Toasters

The Toasters, are “Ska Pioneers” (Billboard magazine) and boldly go where no ska band has gone before. Having been compared to the Ramones, due to their longevity and adherence to core principles, the Toasters are held to be one of most influential ska bands out there. Their lean, mean ska machine has galvanized audiences and musicians alike with their embrace of the Jamaica-born pop music style that overwhelmed England in the 1960’s, migrated to America in the early 1980s, and went global in the 1990s. The hallmark Toasters sound sits at the nexus of Reggae, Jazz, Punk and Soul and is the musical equivalent of a brass knuckle-duster.

Formed in New York City by British guitarist/frontman Rob “Bucket” Hingley in 1981, the Toasters exploded onto the Lower East Side scene. Cutting their teeth with a residency at legendary clubs like CBGB and Danceteria, the band has defied gravity and industry skeptics alike by staying true to their original 2-Tone ska roots, whilst logging over 4000 globe-trotting live appearances.

ZODIAC MINDWARP AND THE LOVE REACTION

The band is the brainchild of Mark Manning, a former graphic artist and art editor of the now defunct Flexipop! magazine. The magazine folded back in 1982 but the hedonistic lifestyle of the frequenting rock and pop stars to the magazine’ offices fueled his desire to experience the debauchery of life as a decadent rock star. He joined another music publication called Metal Fury as a graphic designer but would assume the alter ego Zodiac Mindwarp at night. Zodiac soon left Metal Fury and formed the Love Reaction in 1985 with Jimmy Cauty, who later formed The Orb, The JAMS (Justified Ancients of Mu Mu), and The KLF on guitar, Kid Chaos (real name Stephen Harris) on bass and Boom Boom Kaboomski on drums.

Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction play a sleazy style of commercial hard rock featuring big riffs and choruses, as was the trend in the band’s heyday of the mid-to-late 1980s and early 1990s. The camp lyrics are intended as self-parody, and can be seen as either humorous, or offensive by those who take them at face value, for their often lascivious and misogynist tone. Song titles like “Back Seat Education”, “Feed My Frankenstein”, “High Heeled Heaven”, and “Trash Madonna” illustrate Mindwarp’s tongue-in-cheek approach. Lyrical content also exhibits a send up of cult worship, often of Zodiac Mindwarp’s self-proclaimed raging libido, with Mindwarp claiming the titles sex fuhrer, love dictator, and high priest of love.

“There is no doubt the band takes their groovy Hard Rock very seriously though, because they are really good at what they do! Think Bon Scott era ACDC with a bit of Sleaze Metal thrown in and you have a pretty good idea as to what to expect in respect to Burnt Out Wreck’s style”.

TOWERS OF LONDON

Whatever preconceptions you have of Towers Of London, they will all change within seconds of listening to their new single ‘Shot In The Dark’. The opening guitar riff is the driving force behind a vocal that paints a thousand pictures of aspiration and hope. With a chorus that wouldn’t sound out of place being sung in stadiums all around the world, the Towers have finally gained a bite to their bark. But more importantly, they’ve got heart and are not afraid to show it. There isn’t a more timely need for a song that unites people in an age where building walls is favoured over building bridges. And yes…Towers may have to rebuild a few bridges of their own as a result of their destructive past, but ‘Shot In The Dark’ will go a long way towards doing that.

It’s been 10 years since the Towers first crashed onto the scene with their raucous punk rock anthems and fever pitch stage shows. Now under the guidance of legendary music manager Alan McGee and Creation Management, their forthcoming album ‘Super Sounds Of K-Town’ has nods to their past but open arms to their future as a global rock band.

Recorded in LA’s Korea Town ‘Super Sounds Of K-Town’ is released in 2018, with the video for the first single ‘Shot in the Dark’ being premiered by the motivational and positivity Facebook page ‘Bright Vibes’ on November 17th 2017.

DR SYNTAX & PETE CANNON

Dr Syntax (MC) and Pete Cannon (producer/DJ/MC) have been making music and touring together since 2010. They are well renowned for smashing shows all over the UK, and at festivals such as Boomtown Fair (UK) and Outlook (Croatia).

Both reputed solo artists in their own right, their collaborative releases ‘Killer Combo’, ‘Elaborate Anoraks’ and ‘The Tonic’ combine witty, insightful lyricism and gob-smackingly banging beats to great effect. While their sound is rooted in hip hop for the most part, their riotous live performances showcase their versatility with ventures into bass music, old skool hardcore and jungle.

Dr Syntax has been a well-known name in the UK Hip Hop scene since he appeared on Foreign Beggars’ ‘Asylum Speakers’ album in 2004. Since then he has released numerous albums including his classic 2007 debut ‘Self Taught’, and ‘Scene Stealers’, his 2008 collaboration with Ed Skrein (Deadpool/Game Of Thrones) as Skreintax. More recently, his name has been synonymous with acclaimed Manchester band The Mouse Outfit. He appeared on their albums ‘Escape Music’ and ‘Step Steadier’, and has toured with them relentlessly across the UK and Europe since 2012.

The band is typically associated with the punk subculture, due to its ethics and lyrical content. Their lyrical themes are mostly of a sociopolitical nature, however recent albums ‘Inhale/Exhale’ and ‘Seething Is Believing’ feature more personal lyrics and subject matter. After a 2 year hiatus, they are back to play New Cross Inn in July 2018! https://www.facebook.com/randomhand/

The Peacocks

The Peacocks are a Swiss rockabilly influenced, upright bass driven punk rock band from Winterthur founded in 1990. The trio consists of Hasu Langhart on the guitar/vocals, Jürg Luder on drums, and Simon Langhard on the double bass
http://www.thepeacocks.ch/

The Peacocks, from Switzerland, are great at what they do. They’re cool. They look good. And they love what they do (well, almost always). They rock and roll, struggle and suffer, laugh and cry. They’re on the run and on the road. They’ve been around the globe a couple of times through Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, Finland, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Holland, Spain, Slovenia, Hungary, UK and the Czech Republic, USA, Canada and Japan. Playing over 400 shows in the last three years.

The Peacocks have sold thousands of albums in their 16 year career on their European label, Leech Records, Household Name Records, Crazy Love and Elmo Records; Asian Man Records, Jump Up and Hairball 8 Records in North America; and TV Freak in Japan. They’ve kicked everybody’s ass from Bad Religion, No Means No, Rancid, No FX, Toasters, Demented Are Go…But they’re still hungry (even though their backs hurt’ cause floors suck to sleep on). So, after consuming too much coffee and cigarettes, they continue to tour like crazy and win over hearts everywhere with thier explosive stand up bass driving sound. Punk, Rockabilly, great songs, cool beats, pop but good. They’re moving on and up. Probably one day with nice shirts. And with a new old van. Pedal to the metal!
